Trio Busted With Explosives Freed of Charges
posted (December 18, 2008)

It was big news in June when a trio of Belize City residents were caught at a southside residence with a major stash of explosives. Coming on the heels of May’s grenade attack – a wary public saw it as startling but were grateful for police vigilance. But that supposed vigilance fell down in court today when the two men and a woman charged for possession of explosives walked free from the charges.

23 year old Nikki Pinkard, his 31 year old girlfriend Genevieve Milligan, and a friend 22 year old Leslie Gillett had been charged for possession of explosives, unlicensed gun and ammunition, and possession of controlled drugs.

The case was supposed to go trial today before Magistrate Roberto Ordonez but it didn’t because the police prosecutor wasn’t ready to proceed because the police officer who made the bust didn’t show up to testify. Their attorney Kareem Musa submitted to Magistrate Ordonez that the case was set for trial and since the prosecution wasn’t ready to proceed, the matter should be struck out.

Magistrate Ordonez and the charges against all three were dropped and they were told they were free to go home. The three were allegedly inside a house at the corner of Plues and Berkeley Street at the time of a search on Monday June 23rd. Police found half a pound of PE 4, a plastic explosive, the British equivalent of C4, a smoke grenade, a sawed off pump action 12 gauge shotgun and various detonators that would be used in the assembly of an explosive.
