Around eleven thirty on Monday morning one tourist not only got to see Belize’s
spectacular marine life that lies beneath our waters off San Pedro Ambergris
Caye but he got more than he bargained for after he made a startling discovery
about one hundred and fifty yards away from the shoreline. Lying on the bottom
of the sea floor and sealed in a Ziploc transparent bag was a prohibited firearm,
a black Smith and Wesson along with a box of forty two hallow point live rounds.
The snorkeler handed in the weapon and ammunition to the San Pedro Police.
It is not certain just how long the deadly weapon may have been in the waters
but authorities tell 7NEWS that definite checks will
be conducted however they have been unable to ascertain if the prohibited firearm
and the box of ammunition were intentionally discarded, accidentally dropped
in the water or connected to any case. Nevertheless it is a prohibited firearm
and as such it now remains in the possession of the San Pedro Police.
