And so while Cameron Blease’s death makes his the 96th homicide of 2008,
Barney Cunningham Jr. is the third for 2009. Cunningham was shot in an unexplained
and indiscriminate shooting on Friday night on Curl Thompson Street. It happened
at around 7:00 when Cunningham was in a group of four men who were helping a
friend to move. Suddenly a lone gunman rode up and let loose with fifteen gunshots.
All four were hit, but Cunningham was the most seriously injured as he was shot
to the left side of his head.
He was hospitalized at Belize Medical Associates but succumbed to his injuries
early this morning. Police have no motive and believe it was a random or at
least an unexplained – if particularly – vicious attack. No arrests
have been made. The three men who were with Cunningham were treated for various
gunshot injuries and released.
