Albert Street has been paved and city councillor with responsibility
for sports Phillip Willoughby has big plans for it. Willoughby is organizing
a number of sporting events to be staged on the street and youth football and
basketball are among the first. His organizer Jerome ‘Peel Off’
Mejia told us that the kids will be kicking ball right in the heart of the city.
Jerome ‘Peel Off’ Mejia, Organizer
“The street games will play on Albert Street in front of the bank
and Hofius and the idea is to just bring the kids and keep them positive. The
kids are looking forward to this. The kids called for street games and from
the time we took long to have the street games, the kids get on our case about
it so we have to get street games busy.”
Jules Vasquez,
It will be very special for them to do it on the Alberts downtown.
Jerome ‘Peel Off’ Mejia,
“Yes man and the Alberts smooth and nice and the kids want to do it
on Albert Street because this is the smoothest street we’ve ever played
on.”
Phillip Willoughby, City Councillor
“We promised the kids who are participating in our community sporting
development program that we would end here on Albert Street at the conclusion
of its pavement. We have lined up the street games. We also have plans and preparations
right now for some road races on Albert and Regent Street, criterion style,
for the cyclists and for the road runners.”
The street football and basketball starts on February 15th.
