And while they can use the street for sports so many motorists can’t
find anywhere to park on it. Sure it’s been paved, but 50% of the parking
along Albert Street was eaten up by the king sized sidewalk. Now we’re
not complaining, after all this is a walking city – but the vehicles have
to park somewhere. Today Willoughby told us the council is looking at parking
alleviation plans.
Phillip Willoughby, City Councillor
“What will we be happening is the series of events took place and
phases and in stages. The pavement and the paving of Albert and Regent has concluded,
the vendors are now in the park, and now we look at the best possible solution
and option to give parking for the motoring traffic for the city, in particular
the downtown area.”
Jules Vasquez,
Respectfully Councillor, you are speaking about possibilities and options, I
want concrete. Do you all have anything, it is not a pie in the sky, parking
requires physical space. Can you all secure a physical space to alleviate the
parking pressure that you all have created in downtown Belize City?
Phillip Willoughby,
“Yes of course we can. There are parking areas designated as is right
now that are permanent but again there is a project that is in its consultation
stage and we will providing that the council agrees, we will unveil that to
the city and hopefully we can resolve the parking problem for downtown Belize.”
