The search for 23 year old Darwin Gray ended this morning when his
body washed up along the banks of the Mopan River in Benque Viejo. Gray had
been missing since Monday when he disappeared while crossing the Mopan on his
way back from Melchor with close friends. The body was found about 50 yards
from where he disappeared. There were no signs of violence on the body and pathologist
Mario Estradabran confirmed after a post mortem that he died from drowning.
For Darwin’s family – it brought a sense of closure.
Kenyatta Garnett, Brother
“If they did a complete search and they didn’t find anything
then who am I to really say something has happened because the guy that he was
with, is a close friend of his and we didn’t suspect nothing from the
get go. The spot where he said he saw him went down, that is the spot where
he basically came up from due to, well based on the guy that saw him when he
went up because it was a neighbour in the area who saw drifting on the other
side and he jumped in and brought him over.”
Kimberly Gray, Sister
“We were just waiting on the body to see what really happened. We
know that there is no foul play involved and as they say the Lord giveth and
the Lord taketh, nobody knows it was their destiny. It was his time to go and
all we have to do now is be a strong believer and just get through with the
funeral and everything. When death comes knocking on your door, who are you
to say you don’t want it to be opened.”
Darwin Gray was the father of a 5 month old baby girl.
