The manhunt for Leon Staine Jr. ended today when the 28 year old along with
his attorney Dickie Bradley and a Justice of the Peace turned himself into police.
As we reported on Friday, Staine was the accountant manager at Grace Kennedy
Belize Limited and his bosses say he embezzled major money. The company reported
that between June and December of last year – Staine allegedly embezzled
more than $50,000.
The report wasn’t made to police until last week – January 13th.
In court this afternoon he was slapped with a total of 13 counts of theft. Those
are for the 13 instances – beginning on June 18th of 2008 when it is alleged
that Staine first pocketed $2,156.
There are 12 additional occasions which when tallied – amounts to $53,073.65.
He pleaded not guilty to all 13 counts and he was released on bail of $10,000
plus a surety in the same amount. Staine says the charges are a shock to him
and that he is being used as a scapegoat.
