Yesterday we told you about the battle over the ownership of the PUP party
assets. John Briceno’s leadership bought those assets – namely Positive
Vibes Radio, the Belize Times and Independence Hall from the old guard for more
than eight hundred thousand dollars shortly after he assumed leadership. But
according to the letter, Briceno’s PUP could lose it because the men who
sold the assets to Briceno, Said Musa and Ralph Fonseca haven’t been paid
as promised. Seems they were supposed to get a second and final payment of five
hundred thousand dollars at the end of December, but that never happened.
Musa and Fonseca’s layer Edwin Flowers gave him ten days notice on January
fifth –and it still has not been paid, which seems to leave the sellers
with the only option of going in to reclaim the assets. But that’s not
happening, or at least not yet. Their attorney Edwin Flowers today told us that
Briceno has been in discussions with his clients with a view to try and resolve
the impasse.
And so what’s the next step, and when? Flowers would only say that he
has to get an instruction from his clients on what further steps should be pursued.
A release from the Musa and Balderamos Law Firm this afternoon states that,
quote: “any attempt to look for political drama is misplaced....whoever
leaked such a private correspondence is attempting to create political divisions
out of a straightforward business arrangement.”
That’s the end of the release, but not necessarily this story because
the sense we get is that there are those on both sides of the agreement and
the old/guard/new guard schism who would be only too happy to see this blow
up into a street fight.
