Earlier on we told you about the arrival of Beres Hammond. But also
flying with him on that plane from Miami was the Prodigal Son. He too came from
Jamaica and is a reggae artist who’ll perform on Saturday night at the
Youth Conference 2009 in Belmopan. And while Beres will play for the secular,
Prodigal Son will play for the spiritual. We spoke to the Prodigal Son and his
drummer Kevon Clarke at the airport.
Prodigal Son, Performing Saturday
“My music is a mixture of everything but my hardcore thing is what
we work on, the reggae side. We are full fledged reggae, only thing is different
is that it is our words and our words speak of life and that is about it.”
Keith Swift,
Why did you fuse reggae with Christian teaching?
Prodigal Son,
“Because it is a powerful vehicle and reggae music, music on a whole
is an international and universal language. So we fuse it with reggae and we
find out that it grabs the younger generation and as we know the youths, they
are the future.
Listen, it is going to be a good time. It is going to be one of those times
you will never forget. Don’t miss it. Come out, enjoy yourself. Jump,
praise, shout, be re-energized, revitalized – I will be giving you everything
from my first album to the last album. You can’t miss this one.”
Kevon Clarke, Drummer
“I am a young person and I would just like to invite out all the young
people to just come and enjoy themselves, just enjoy themselves and pray up
the ministry and you just come and be blest.”
The Prodigal Son will be joined on stage by Shepherd and Jason Mighty
at the University of Belize gym in Belmopan. You can buy tickets online at ycBelize.com.
