posted (February 16, 2009)

One day after he was bludgeoned to death forty four year old Orange Walk Town resident Enrique Lino Castillo’s alleged killer was found. Today Nimrod Tillett was formally charged for the crime; he had been on the run since the gruesome murder occurred either on Thursday night or early Friday morning. 7News understands that it was one of Tillett’s own relatives who turned him in to police. Initially the victim’s family believed that their brother was the killed in a crime of passion by Nimrod Tillett with whom they say he had a relationship. But today when 7News caught up with his sister Antonette Young outside the Belize City morgue, she told us that they believe it was simply robbery.

Antonette Young, Sister of Murder Victim
“He didn’t have that amount of cash on him and it is not robbery. No it is not. It is not robbery. There was no forced entry. This young man had been his friend for the last five months I would say. Frankly speaking we’re going through grief right now. We’re seeking justice. We will not stop here. We want this to go to the maximum and Belize has to wake up. We need to start with the death penalty.”

Police investigations reveal that on the night Enrique Lino Castillo was killed he was last seen socializing at his residence in the company of Nimrod Tillett. At the crime scene Orange Walk Police found a broken baseball bat which they believe to be the murder weapon. According to the family while they know their brother did not have as much as three thousand dollars on him, an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from him as well as a cell phone, jewellery and other items. While neighbours recalled seeing two men running from the victim’s residence, Orange Walk Police today told 7News that nimrod Tillett is their main suspect. Following his appearance in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court Nimrod Tillett was remanded to the Hattieville Prison.
