On Friday, the City’s Director of Financial Services Dwain Davis told
us he couldn’t recall what streets Triple B Heavy Equipment did work on
– apart from Gentle Avenue. Still, the Council owes the company almost
a quarter million dollars.
Well today, Triple B’s Owner, Benson Ramclam came forward to say that
his is no shadow company, and he provided a rundown of the streets he’s
done work on in Belize City. Ramclam – who declined an on camera interview
– showed us a list of streets that he’s done work on since December.
These are TV Ramos Street, Water Lane, Albert Street West, as well as streets
in the area of Brodies on the Northern Highway, Gentle Avenue and others. Ramclam
says that all those works were certified by the city engineer for a grand total
of just over $220,000. He says that up to now he has been paid fourteen thousand
five hundred dollars by the council – not the $20,000 that Davis told
us about.
Ramclam says he’s been in business since 1985 and got the contracts for
the city streets because he went to offer his services to the mayor without
asking for any money up front. He says he was told he would get paid in January
when the Council’s revenue stream picked up. The 2 checks he did get paid
were made out in late February.
