If you just happened to be driving past the entrance to the Phillip
Goldson International at mile eight and a half on the Northern Highway around
one this afternoon, you would have seen a small red car that was totalled. The
driver identified as Raphael Rodriquez, a painter of Ladyville village lost
control, ran off the road and careened into a concrete column. The crash caused
extensive damage to the front of the vehicle, including the windshield and the
presence of blood indicates that the driver was injured. Ladyville Police were
on the scene and according to Corporal Ean Gavez, Raphael Rodriquez is lucky
to be alive.
Cpl. Ean Gavez, Ladyville Police
“We observed a male person in the vehicle lying down. Apparently he
had a cut over the right eye and he was bleeding profusely.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
The ambulance was called and he was rushed to the KHMH?
Cpl. Ean Gavez,
“Yes he was rushed to the KHMH.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
The driver was the only occupant inside the car?
Cpl. Ean Gavez,
“He was the only one at the time of the accident. Apparently he said
he was coming from Ladyville heading towards Belize City. Apparently as he reached
the airport he lost control and was trying to avoid hitting the divider and
apparently he lost control and ended up in the fence.”
Luckily the driver only escaped with an injury to the eye but at this time
the police are advising motorists as they get travel on our highways for the
long Easter holiday weekend to be very careful.
Cpl. Ean Gavez,
“The advice that I have is that they must be very patient, respect
the rules of the road, take their time, check their vehicles that is properly
road worthy, so that we can have a peaceful Easter.”
Raphael Rodriquez is reportedly hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial
Hospital recovering from his injury. At the scene we were informed that the
driver is related to one of the accident victim’s who was decapitated
in the gruesome accident that occurred last week in Carmelita Village. Ladyville
police say they do not know if speeding contributed to the cause of the accident.
