Just like their counterparts in Belize City, San Ignacio Police are also at
a loss as to who killed fifty three year old Red Creek Village resident Felix
Cocom. The only difference in this homicide is that the victim is no innocent
individual and it is not known if his long list of run ins with the law that
involved numerous robberies and burglaries may have something to do with his
killing.
But police say Felix Cocom was shot multiple times to the chest and stomach
area. The body was discovered at a farm in the lower Barton Creek area yesterday
afternoon. Authorities suspect Cocom had been killed the day before because
when the body was discovered it was already in state of decomposition. From
what was observed on site, police also strongly believe that is not where Felix
Cocom was killed.
According to reports there was no presence of blood, or signs of a struggle
and investigators did observe tire tracks they believe were made by the vehicle
that dumped the body. According to San Ignacio Police the investigation into
the homicide is very preliminary and due to the victim’s long criminal
record there are many angles to this case.
Felix Cocom had recently been linked to several thefts that have been occurring
in the Mennonite community and other areas in the Cayo District.
