And as we mentioned the story – Jose Choto’s ranking as
the first Belizean to cross the finish line is being challenged by the runner
up – Jeovanni Froggie Leslie. In a letter to Cycling Association President
Emil Moreno, Leslie is protesting the certification of Jose Choto as the first
Belizean to cross the finish line. Today he told us why.
Jeovanni Froggie Leslie,
“Yesterday when I was doing my brainstorming and when everything was
all said and done and I had already relaxed my mind, I said but how did they
have on the report which Mrs. Yvonne sent out to us via email, how comes they
have him down as a Nicaraguan. I said he won the first Belizean prize so I said
well by right that prize is supposed to be for me and if the prize belongs to
me then I think I should get it. It is not really nothing much, I think it is
a bull or something like that, but I mean to have the name – I already
didn’t win the race so maybe if I have the name, it would help me feel
a little better and that’s it right there.”
Keith Swift,
So you’re not being a sore loser as you said you’re not?
Jeovanni Froggie Leslie,
“No I am just….the name would be better because I mean heck
I wanted to be the Cross Country champ which is much better than the first Belizean
prize and then going back to the race I am wondering why this man didn’t
want me to get no breather, the foreigners weren’t worrying about me,
and he was worrying about me but then I conscious that this man wanted to beat
me for this first Belizean prize. So then I said if it is only that he was riding
for and he is not even Belizean then give the devil what he is due.”
Cycling Association President Emil Moreno told us by phone from Cayo
that it may be nothing more than a typo since it is well known fact that Jose
Choto is a registered Belizean cyclist. He however says the protest board is
dealing with it and he will allow the process to work.
