Police say the man who shot and killed a Benque Viejo shop assistant on Monday
night – and the accused killer is dead. Yesterday around 3 pm, police
pulled the body of 22 year old Juan Noe Suchite out of the Mopan River near
the water pumping area.
He had a 38 revolver with four expended shells tied around his neck and ten
live rounds for the gun in his pocket. There was a cut wound to the left side
of his head which police believe he suffered while fleeing the scene of the
murder. They suspect he attempted to cross the river but didn’t make it.
Police are sure he is the gunman who killed Ponce since witnesses have identified
him. Suchite entered Rosy’s Store on Monday and ordered everyone on the
ground. He raided the cash register which is when Jesus Ponce grabbed a gun
and attempted to shoot the robber. The safety was on and the rifle never fired.
The gunman then opened fire on Jesus Ponce.
A post mortem on Juan Noe Suchite will be conducted tomorrow in Belize City.
He is a Guatemalan national from Melchor and he had his Guatemalan cedula on
him.
