Fathers Against Abuse Will Picket Supreme Court
posted (May 13, 2009)

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the Fathers Against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of Children but FASEAC is still active. In fact on Friday, the group will be holding a peaceful demonstration against what they say has been a consistent injustice towards Belize’s youngest population. According to the organizations’ founder Bert Ramos too often persons accused of sexual abuse against children get off and walk away scott free. So on Friday, FASEAC will be protesting through the main streets of the city. Ramos says they are calling for improvements in the judiciary and the prosecution of sex crimes against minors. Today, Ramos told that for too long cases have been thrown out due to lack of evidence and it is about time something is done to help young victims.

Jacqueline Godwin,
The Fathers Against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of Children formed over a year ago. How strong is it today?

Bert Ramos, Founder
“Well the strength that we have today, it is very strong. We are working together, we have meetings often and we might not be seen in the light and heard about but we are surely doing what is our task. I am really looking at the justice system, we are looking at the police. We strongly feel that the police should do more. We should have more police officers who are trained for things like this. We need some good tests to take that whenever a police do what he is supposed to do and when they reach in front of the prosecutor, the prosecutor has enough strong case.

We want you to come and support and so we are here as Fathers Against Child Abuse to support you, report it. Whenever anything happens to you, tell your mom, tell your granny, tell anybody who is close to you. Don’t let anything like this happen to you and let it just walk off. We will be there and we will be fighting that you get your justice.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
And you expect a strong turnout at Friday’s picketing?

Bert Ramos,
“Well I am expecting the whole of Belize to turn out, at least the people who are against it. If you don’t come out on Friday, there has to be a real good reason why they don’t come out. I feel there should be a valid reason and you should come out and sign the petition.”

Friday’s picket which is also supported by the national committee for families and children gets underway at ten in the morning and will be held under the theme, stop sexual exploitation and abuse of our women and children. Petition forms can be downloaded from the NCFC website.
