And while most businesses may bristle at the spectre of increased costs
– Mayor Moya says that for those who have been doing it right, their bill
will be less, and even for those who have been paying to have the garbage disposed
of illicitly, it might not go up much.
Mayor Zenaida Moya,
“In a lot of instances persons will be paying less. In some instances
whereby persons used to evade paying commercial garbage and dealing with the
for a lack of a better word crackheads and dirtying up the city causing really
frustration by residents, frustration by school children who have to pass these
hotspots and so forth, the stench of it, I believe that it is reasonable.
There is already a long list of persons who already have contracted the
services of Belize Waste Control. So they are already paying these and in fact,
in most instances they were paying more than now what they will be paying.”
Troy Smith,
“You can have a large building accumulate one bag per week so there
has to be some form of consultation with the business person to identify the
volume of garbage that your business accumulates per week or per month and hence
the reason why….because remember we charge $22 per cubic so there has
to be a study done to identify what is the volume of garbage your business accumulates.”
Jules Vasquez,
There has to be or there has been?
Troy Smith,
“There has been.”
Phillip Willoughby,
“Remember we are saying that you will be charged for the amount of
garbage generated per establishment. So Waste Control will go with their truck,
they will collect your garbage, they will sign this thing, you will sign and
say this is the amount of cubic yards that has been generated and that is what
will be collected. So it is based on what is bill that will be paid at the end
of the month when we reconcile back.”
