A few farmers in Belize Rural North are in hog’s heaven – or somewhere
close to it after area representative Edmund Castro handed over chicks and piglets.
Eleven farmers each received a pair of piglets along with feed. They each also
got water nipples to feed the piglets as well as a package of vitamins and de-wormers.
Ten additional farmers received fifty broilers along with feed for six weeks.
Broilers are chickens raised specifically for meat. Later this month –
ten farmers will get layers – those are the chickens used for laying eggs.
The donation was from the Agriculture Extension Service. Similar donations have
been made to farmers in the Toledo, Cayo, and Stann Creek Districts.
