The price of butane has gone up again. This nationwide $6 increase on the price
of a hundred pound cylinder came into effect last week Thursday – but
was only announced today. The last increase was in April, when the price went
up by $3. According to government, the adjustment is due to increased acquisition
costs for butane gas importers.
We have also been informed by sources within the industry that BNE has started
butane production, but are only in the test phase, and are not producing significant
volumes at the moment. Those sources tell us that at full production phase locally
produced butane is expected to cover 30% of the market, although this may be
up to a year away.
