In March, Belize Water Services Limited asked the Public Utilities Commission
to approve an 8% increase in rates because of inflation. Well this evening,
the PUC issued its response. The Commission did not approve the 8% increase
– and ordered that the present rates shall remain in effect.
But that's not the end of it. There's an important "but."
The PUC decision stresses that it can only approve the increase after either
a Full Tariff Review Proceeding or an Annual Review Proceeding – and the
present water rates will remain in effect until at least one of those are done.
But for the time being, the bottom line is that your water bill is not going
up.
