Two more witnesses testified today in Christine Perriott’s trial for
her wrongful termination from BTL. This morning’s first witness was Romel
Carcamo, the secretary of the Tripartite Body at the Labour Department. BTL’s
attorney Andrew Marshalleck questioned if the Belize Communications Workers
Union was legally registered and certified under the Trade Unions and Employers
Organization Act. Carcamo said that as far as he knows the union was so registered.
He was the last witness called by Christine’s attorney Antoinette Moore.
He was unavailable yesterday and was subpoenaed to appear today.
Following Carcamo it was Martha Molina, the General Manager of Human Resources
and Corporate Support Services. She told she recommended Christine’s termination
to the executive committee because it was, “evident Christine Perriott
did not want to be a part of Telemedia.” She says she received numerous
complaints from Christine’s supervisors and managers about her performance.
She adds that Christine wasn’t “pulling her weight”
and that Christine only lasted as long as she did because she was on the union
executive.
Molina underwent a rigorous cross examination which began this morning and
ended this afternoon. She was the defence’s last witness. BTL’s
CEO Dean Boyce was scheduled to testify but he is out of the country. Martha
Molina was the last witness. Written arguments will now be submitted to Justice
John Muria next week. Perriott was fired from BTL in February of 2007. In the
lawsuit she is claiming it was because she was a vocal member of the union.
