Oil prices on the world market are falling but in Belize, the price of butane
is rising. It was announced today but as of yesterday Wednesday July 15th the
price of a one hundred pound cylinder rose by $5 across the board. So in Belize
City the price jumped from $93 to $98. The price is also $98 in Corozal. It
is $99 in Orange Walk and $100 in Belmopan and San Ignacio. That tank of butane is now $101 in Benque and $102 in Dangriga and $103 in Punta Gorda.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow is quoted in today’s Guardian as saying he
expects a sharp decrease in the price of gasoline shortly. Last week, the price
of diesel jumped the $7 mark.
Stolen Computers Returned
Last week we told you that $14,000 in office equipment was stolen when the Belize District Education Office on Mahogany Street was burglarized. But as
we reported earlier this week, police found it at an abandoned home –
also in the Mahogany Street area. And tonight the news is that today officials
from the Ministry visited police and got back most of the items.
And in a clarification to what we reported, Hall never worked at the Ministry
– and contrary to what police told the court, the stolen items were recovered
from abandoned lot at 8166 Mahogany street, not 8207 – which is an unrelated
private residence. Carlos Hall, the man accused of the theft was fired form
his job after he was charged.
