Public Consultations for 7th Constitution Amendment Bill
posted (July 21, 2009)

If you feel that members of the National Assembly should not be able to hold dual citizenship, in the next few days you’ll have a chance to make your point to government leaders in the Constitution and Foreign Affairs Committee. They are holding meetings all over the country to hear Belizeans’ views on the Belize Constitution Seventh Amendment Bill and the Caribbean Court of Justice Bill.

The first Bill proposes to allow members of the National Assembly to hold dual citizenship, because as it currently stands only those holding exclusively Belizean passports can be a member of either House. The second bill proposes to make the Caribbean Court of Justice the highest court in our system.

Meetings commence on tomorrow night at 7:30 in Belize City at the Bishop Sylvester Memorial Center. July 29th in Dangriga at the Dangriga Town Hall. July 30th in San Ignacio at the San Ignacio Conference Room. August 5th in Orange Walk at the Orange Walk Town Hall. August 6th in Corozal at the Corozal town hall. August 19th in Punta Gorda at the Punta Gorda Sports Complex. August 20th in San Pedro at the San Pedro Lion’s Den.
