A jury of 7 women and 2 men deliberated for over 4 hours today in court before
it gave its verdict of not guilty in the case of 31 year old Clarence Jones,
who allegedly attempted to murder his wife, Gina Jones. The verdict however,
was not unanimous.
The incident took place on November 3rd, 2007. Gina Jones testified that she
was with her children at the bus stop in front of Palotti High School when Jones
asked her if they could reconcile, and when she refused he dropped his 3 yr
old son and attacked her with a knife. She said Jones stabbed her under her
left armpit and held the knife to her neck, but was able to prevent him from
stabbing her neck, though was cut on the cheek in the process.
A police officer who appeared on the scene, and prevented Clarence from further
harming Gina, who had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital. Clarence, who was not
represented by a lawyer, admitted to the charges in a testimony, but said he
had no intentions of killing her. Even though he admitted, to establish attempted
murder, intention must be established – and only one of the nine jurors
thought he was guilty. Eight didn’t and with that he was acquitted.
