They left our shores with a lotta hope, but since arriving in Venezuela it’s
been mostly downhill for Belize’s female softball team and they are facing
elimination from the 7th Pan American Women’s Championship.
They’ve taken shellings from the United States which beat us 15 to nil,
13 – nil from Brazil, 7–nil from Colombia, and 14-1 from Cuba.
And while that’s the good news for people who love bad news, the encouraging
news is that in today’s match versus the Netherland Antilles, Belize lost
2 to 1. And then the good news: Belize beat Ecuador seven to five. The winning
pitcher in that one was Janell Smith.
Tomorrow August 6, Belize will play Panama and then El Salvador. Team Belize
must win against Netherland Antilles, El Salvador and Panama for any hopes
of qualifying.
