Canadian Jailed for Verbal Insults
posted (August 26, 2009)

A Canadian is tonight cooling his heels inside Belize City Central Prison. On February tenth, 2009, forty seven year old David Macfarlane got himself into trouble with the law when he cursed out a police officer inside the Battlefield Park. Macfarlane was charged with using insulting words to a police sergeant. He was found guilty and today Magistrate Tracy Sosa ordered that he pay a fine of one hundred dollars.

But David Macfarlane declared in court that he will not pay the fine and that he is prepared to go to prison to spend his one month behind bar, the time in default of payment of the fine. David Macfarlane also told Magistrate Sosa that his visa had expired and that he had no money to renew it.

Court reports are that it is quite likely that after spending time inside the Belize Central Prison David Macfarlane will be deemed a prohibited immigrant and deported to Canada. And what about the bloody nose? Well it seems that Macfarlane had a scuffle inside the holding cell where he was giving trouble.
