Two young men were shot on Friday night in the same area of Belize
City. The same area but turf controlled by two different sets, the South Side
Gangsters on one side and Kraal Road on the other. In the first shooting around
8:00, 26 year old Kareem Abdul Arnold was shot in the head as he stood at the
corner of Cesar Ridge and Kraal road – that's the SSG side. He survived,
but three hours later Darrell Francis was standing on the Kraal Road side of
the street at the corner of Neal's Pen Road and that shot – again
to the head - was fatal. Jacqueline Godwin has more on the slaying of a 21 year
old.
Jacqueline Godwin Reporting
While no one who really knew 21 year old Darrel Francis including his own family
would talk to us about the loss of their son and very good friend, from what
7News has been able to gather is that Darrel Francis was out here at the corner
of Neal's Pen Road and Kraal Road buying liquor when a lone gunman rode
up and shot him from the behind. From all indications, it was not a case of
mistaken identity."
But who would want to kill twenty one year old Darrel Kent Francis? Preliminary
investigation by police is that the young man from number six Waight Street
was standing at his Chinese grocery store when he was murdered. The bullet struck
Darrel Francis in his left temple and exited his right jaw. He died on his way
to the KHMH.
Word on the street is that the murder may be connected to a rivalry between
groups in the neighbourhood. One of the victim's friends, who did not
wish to appear on camera, told us she was surprised when she got the news.
Voice of Friend of Murder Victim,
"Yes, I mi surprise when a young man came and told me that Darrel
got shot. I said because he is a well known person to the neighbourhood. He
is an active person that is always around and is handy in the neighbourhood.
He is a young man who you could ask anything to do, to help you and thing. So
we were really surprised to hear that he was killed. I don't know who
ever had thing with and thing but it is sad how he got hurt."
And just who pulled trigger is still unknown to police who have not
yet detained anyone for the murder of twenty one year old Darrel Kent Francis.
