It has all the appearances of an inside job but the management of the Chamber
of Commerce western Union remains tight lipped about a large cash heist. The
Chamber’s Western Union office recently moved into the ground floor of
the newly constructed Coney Drive business plaza.
Preliminary investigation by police revealed that sometime after one on Saturday
morning the security guard was held up by an armed dark skinned man. The gunman
tied his hands, strapped a shirt over his face and took his hand held radio.
The man then popped the lock off the door and apparently went after one thing
only and that is the safe that contained sixty thousand dollars in U.S. and
Belize dollars cash.
Police say at this time they have been questioning a number of persons but
have yet to detain anyone for questioning.
So was it an inside job? Western Union had no comment at all and referred us
to the police press release.
