Car Thieves Taken to Court
posted (September 2, 2009)

The theft of motor vehicles is becoming an increasingly popular crime – and what makes it hard for police to detect is that in most cases the cars are stripped and their parts are then put into other apparently clean vehicles. That’s what happened to the engine for George Sosa’s L200 Mitsubishi pickup. When police visited Richard Bennett’s mechanic shop on Magazine Road they found the engine for the truck inside a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo.

Today 52 year old Bennett was charged with handling stolen goods for dishonestly appropriating the engine. He pleaded not guilty and was bailed for $2,500.

But if he allegedly had the engine, where’s the rest of the truck? Well, to find that police had to go all the way to Caledonia Village in the Corozal District yesterday. They reportedly found parts for a Toyota Previa and the shell of Sosa’s Mitsubishi pickup.

For that, three men were taken to Corozal Magistrate’s Court and charged for handling stolen goods. Enfield Gillett Jr., Paul Hemsley, and Egbert Ferguson – all Belize City residents.
