If you’re tired of seeing those unsightly green garbage bags
which Belize Maintenance Limited fills and then leaves on the street side, or,
as the case may be, in front of your yard - they will soon be a thing of the
past. At least that is according to the City Councillor in charge of Sanitation
Phillip Willoughby. He met with officials from BML and Belize Waste Control
and told us that they reached a compromise. According to Willoughby, the best
part is that it won’t cost the City Council an extra cent.
Phillip Willoughby, City Councillor
“BML will collect from Foreshore to East Collet Canal and from opposite
side of East Collet Canal to the Western Highway will be Belize Waste Control
that will be collecting this garbage and this won’t come at a cost to
the city. No new cost, no additional cost and this is all in an effort to work
together and harmonizing the two sanitation companies along with the council.”
Keith Swift,
“What is in this for them then?”
Phillip Willoughby,
“Nothing. There is nothing other than cleaning the streets. I must
say that every time I get a break to pray about these things I have to ask God
for the wisdom and tolerance to deal with it all and today we have been successful
as the council to accomplish that.”
In related news, Councillor Willoughby says they are on a campaign
to remove derelict vehicles from the streets and so far he claims they have
towed over one thousand vehicles.
