Frankie Reneau, the accomplished Belizean composer and classical pianist
calls England home but as per tradition he has been in Belize all summer working
alongside music students. They’ve been preparing for his annual concert
which will take place on Friday night at the Bliss Center. This afternoon we
caught up with Frankie rehearsing with two of his students Asako Solis and Yumi
Sakai.
Yumi Sakai, Student
“It is my second time, I am excited. He is a very very good pianist,
a very good artist and also a good teacher.”
Asako Solis, Student
“He gave me an opportunity to brush up myself and also I can teach
this skill to my students.”
Yumi Sakai,
“Same thing. I had played the piano for 20 something years and I didn’t
have much opportunity to play in front of people, for the audience and so I
am very very happy.”
Francis Reneau, Pianist
“All the students that I have taught for the piano, different styles
as well, jazz included; a jazz quartet. The Chorale Society is singing and myself
of course as well. When the concerts are from my part, I also do new material,
one or two favourites like the variations of the national anthem which I perform
every September but the whole program is very different and combination of Nelita
Castillo and the jazz quartet, those are different things as well.”
Showtime is 8 pm at the Bliss Center.
