And if classical music isn’t your thing, you can take the family
to the annual police and military tattoo on Friday evening. This year it will
be at the Roger’s Stadium and so because of space constraint - like last
year the show will be scaled down. There will be no air rescue simulation but
the show will still go on. Today we stopped in at rehearsals and spoke to one
of the organizers - the Belize Defense Force’s Capt. George Link.
Capt. George Link, Belize Defense Force
“This year we will have the BDF as you can see the BDF, the Fire Service,
and the police will be providing the display to the public. More or likely the
youths, they like the show, the bangs and the firing the mock battles. As you
can see we are setting up a display for them. The simulation, we are trying
to hold it down a bit because people were scared of the bangs but it will be
a pretty good show for the public to come out.
Belizeans have a lot of families serving in either the police, fire service,
or military and they want to come out and see what training their personnel
have received. This is a good time for them to see what training they have received.
So you will find either at this time the children will come in and before
the actual show they try to see what we have to offer them and with this you
could see the interest that they will have a career in one of these fields;
the fire, the police or the BDF and we will have the Coast Guard also coming
out and being a part of this. It is growing bigger and bigger and then maybe
next year we will have a larger area to have these displays and portraits of
what we do in the services for the country.”
The action starts at 5:30. Entrance is only $3 for adults and $2 for
children. Vendors will be asked to pay a fee of ten dollars but they must be
at the gate by 3 pm.
