Soca’s leading lady Allison Hinds is in Belize tonight. The soca
sensation along with her 4 member band will headline the ninth night concert
at the City Center on Wednesday night This is Allison’s third trip to
Belize but it is her first as a solo artist. And while she is no longer with
square one and has changed her hairstyle, she told Keith Swift that the one
thing which hasn’t changed is the music.
Allison Hinds, Performing Ninth Night
“It is going to be off the chain. It is going to be crazy, you can’t
miss the show. It is going to be absolutely good. It is the day before independence
correct, and what better way to celebrate? We’re going to go and have
a great time. This is my third trip and my first two trips I had a ball. I had
such a good time. I was with my band Square One then. Now I am here as a solo
artist with my own band and everything. So I am really really happy to be back
here in Belize again and definitely looking forward to the show.
I am going to be doing some of the favourites, some of the songs like Faluma,
Togetherness, and Aye Aye, and Carnival Baby – you know I can go on and
on – as well as new stuff that I’ve done since I’ve been solo.
Roll It Gial of course is very popular with all my independent ladies out there
and some of the stuff that I would have done this year and that kind of thing
so it is going to be a mix. It is going to be a nice mix of some of the classics
along with the new stuff.
I want to see all my ladies, I want to see the guys come out, I want you
to bring your flags out because I know Belizeans are very patriotic. So bring
your flags out and represent for your country. I am happy to be here to help
you to celebrate and we are going to celebrate together. I am going to be Belizean
on the ninth night. I am going to be an honorary Belizean and I am going to
celebrate independence with you all.”
Keith Swift,
“And we’re going to get a full concert right, we won’t a half
hour show?”
Allison Hinds,
“No, no I don’t do that, full concert – full thing. I
will perform until I can’t perform no more.”
Allison Hinds’ only performance in Belize will be on Wednesday
night. She leaves on Thursday. Wednesday’s concert will feature Chico
Ramos and Reckless. It is a fundraising initiative by the Carnival Association
in an attempt to become independent next year.
