Belize City Police are calling it arson but the National Fire Service
still cannot determine if the fire that broke out at ten forty five last night
at 4198 Marigold Lane was deliberately set. The blaze totally destroyed a small
wooden structure that appears to have been abandoned. It sits to the rear of
the property of Kenroy Lopez who told police that when he saw the building,
it was already engulfed in flames.
Kenneth Mortis, National Fire Service
“Last night when we arrived at the Marigold Lane house fire we observed
a small structure fully engulfed in flames. As is the norm the Fire Department
extinguished the fire and we started a preliminary investigation. The investigation
revealed the basic; the owner/the occupier we can’t say for sure what
started the fire, our investigation is still ongoing and we are hoping we will
have something before the day is out.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“According to the police press release, they say it was arson and that
the police have since detained one person pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Kenneth Mortis,
“Yes we have heard that also, we have heard it is arson. We have scouted
the area to the best of our ability to try and see if we have found any incendiary
or any flammable substance to support such a cause. We don’t want to prematurely
jump to a conclusion based on second hand information. We want to confirm for
a fact that it is indeed harmony.”
No one was injured and the value of the damage and cause of the fire
remain unknown.
