There were two fatal car accidents yesterday in the Belize District.
At about 3:15 pm Genovieva Marin, the chief analyst at the National Forensic
Laboratory in Ladyville – was travelling to Belize City with her mother
and two daughters. But something went terribly wrong between miles 23 and 24
on the Northern Highway. Marin lost control of her government issued Toyota
Hilux pickup experienced a blow-out and it flipped multiple times. The officer
in charge of Ladyville Police Inspector Calbert Flowers says that Marin’s
8 year old daughter Lisa Jessie Marin died on the spot.

“Upon arrival the police observed a badly damaged Toyota Hilux. Also at the scene was the apparent lifeless body of a young female. Police investigations
revealed that Miss Geneova Marin, the chief analyst for the forensic laboratory
here in Ladyville, was driving the Toyota Hilux which is assigned to the lab
from the direction of Orange Walk enroute to Ladyville area. Upon reaching this
area the vehicle overturned. Our investigation is ongoing, the vehicle will
be inspected to see what caused it to overturn. Along with Ms. Marin in the
vehicle were three other family members.”

“Ms. Marin and the other child is in stable condition. The investigation
is ongoing. The vehicle will be inspected later on this evening and we will
determine where we go from there.”
In the vehicle with the 43 year old Marin and her 8 year old daughter
were her 12 year old daughter Carla and her 66 year old mother Amparo Marin.
Amparo is in a critical condition while Genovieva and Carla are said to be in
stable condition.
