And ten hours before the Marin family tragedy, there was a fatal accident
in the village of Scotland Halfmoon. Police say that at 5:45 on Sunday morning
they found 39 year old tour guide Lawrence Cleland slumped over the steering
wheel of an Isuzu Trooper he had rented. Ladyville Police say it appears that
Cleland crashed into the concrete median on the Mosul Creek Bridge.
Insp. Calbert Flowers, O.C. –Ladyville Police
“Upon arrival at the Mosul Creek Bridge police observed a black Isuzu
Trooper which was at the western portion of the bridge, the front portion of
the vehicle was extensively damaged and the police observed that an apparent
lifeless body of a male was still seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
The male was later identified as Lawrence Cleland. Our investigation so far
reveals that Mr. Cleland was travelling alone in the Trooper from the direction
of Scotland Halfmoon enroute to the Belize City area when the vehicle collided
into the bridge. The investigation is ongoing.”
Keith Swift,
“So what do you believe happened, he fell asleep at the wheel?”
Insp. Calbert Flowers,
“We cannot say at this point but our investigation reveals that he
left Scotland Halfmoon sometime around five o’clock in the morning. He
was alone.”
A post mortem was performed on Cleland’s body this afternoon.
