If we’d ask any of you residents of the Belize City to tell us
what this city is, you’d probably have a hard time – because it
is so many things. So imagine if we asked any of the twenty million residents
of Mexico City to tell us what that place is!? Well, that would be almost impossible.
But instead of words, photo-journalist Francisco Mata has used pictures and
we all know each of those is worth a thousand words. Well, his pictures are
loaded! We’d say they’re an easy ten thousand words each –so
this morning we virtually read a book on the story of Mexico in an exhibit at
the Mexican Cultural Center. Public Relations Director Marcelino Miranda was
our guide.
Marcelino Miranda, PR Director
“This photo exhibition is trying to show the Belizean public the real
face of Mexico, especially Mexico City. Mexico City has the many faces of Mexico
and the many faces of which Mexicans live their everyday life and this is a
very good opportunity for the Belizean public to visit Mexico City. This is
free ticket to Mexico City. This is the real Mexico, this is not Chetumal, and
so we are going to be travelling through these pictures to the real Mexico,
to the core of Mexico.
This is a city in which ancient Aztec traditions join with modern beliefs
and also the tradition of the Catholic religion and the Spanish culture. We
can see people having a very strong Aztec tradition but with Catholic beliefs.
We can see syncretism through these pictures.”
The exhibit is free and open to the public until the middle of next
month. The public – particularly school children are welcome to attend.
