An official release from the Prime Minister’s Office today announced
that he left for Miami this morning for a medical check-up. So what’s
wrong with the PM? Well, he has a bad back, a very bad back, a condition which
he’s been contending with for the past 20 years. But now from all outward
appearances, it’s become unbearable.
And for proof of that you need look no further than his pained appearances
at the Official events for this year’s Impendence Celebrations. First
on Sunday night when he arrived for the flag raising ceremony, he could barely
get out of his official vehicle and when he did, he was in visible pain –
barely able to walk without a notable hitch. 10 hours later at the official
ceremonies in Belmopan, he looked slightly better as he walked in gingerly,
but looked as if he was going to lose his balance when he stepped down from
the dais.
As we said, it’s a condition that has gotten worse over the past two
decades – and he got a surgery performed in Belize in 2004 but it seemed
not to have made much of a difference because since then, he’s told us
that’s his bouts of pain have become more frequent and acute. He’s
consulted with specialists locally and has now gone to Miami for a second opinion.
