An American fugitive has been caught in Belize. He is a sheriff's deputy from
the US State of Georgia who fled after he was charged with killing his wife
and a day laborer. According to US media reports, Yancey was arrested by Belize
police after State Department agents in Belize got a tip on his whereabouts
and tracked him to a bar in Punta Gorda on Saturday evening.
Yancey had been featured on America’s most wanted and the person who
gave the tip on his whereabouts stands to recover a reward of twenty thousand
dollars. That person has not been identified by US law enforcement.
Yancey is accused in the 2008 shootings of his 44 year old wife Linda and
Marcial Cax Puluc, a 20-year-old Guatemalan immigrant he had hired to work at
his home in the Atlanta. Yancey told investigators that Puluc had killed his
wife and he killed Puluc in self-defense. According to US media, Yancey is expected
to be returned to the U.S. within days.
