Today the relationship between Belize and Mexico was strengthened as
for the first time a team representing one of the oldest and most recognized
educational institutions from across the border is offering Belizean students
an opportunity to pursue higher studies, especially in the field of science
research technology. The National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico was established
in 1936. Its programmes have been recognized internationally giving graduates
the opportunity of employment worldwide.
Today IPN’s Secretary for Extension and Social Integration Dr.
Jose Madrid Flores told 7News it is an honour for them to be able to provide
their professional services to Belizean students whether it is at the high school
level, bachelor’s level including masters and philosophical degrees. The
group of educators have already met with Minister of Education Patrick Faber,
Representatives of the University of Belize, the University of the West Indies
of Continuing Studies, ITVETT, and government officials.
Today they held a press conference to inform the general public about
their visit and to extend invitations to students interested in enrolling at
the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico.

“It is very important for us to invite all the people who want Bachelor’s
degrees to come to Mexico to study with us in engineering, in medical and biological
sciences, and also in some special areas of administration. For Mexico it is
very important to work together with Belize and all the countries of Central
America.”

“Why offer it to Belize? Is this the whole part of the Mexico Belize working
relationship?”
Dr. Jose Madrid Flores,
“Yes, with Belize we have some agreements to work together not only
in education, in scientific research and other businesses.
Our work is put in papers in the same journals as the people who work in
the United States. They have reciprocal recognition in environment, in nanotechnology,
mathematics, physics, natural science, and so it is exactly the same.”
