Remember that dream about having internet in every classroom? The truth
is that most classrooms don’t even have a computer. And that is where
the Rotary Sunrise Club says they can help and they did so today with the donation
of 12 computers to 4 schools. We found out more.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Primary School has been without a functioning
computer lab since a burglary two years ago.
Marva Bennett, Principal
“They had some eight or ten computers that were stolen and when they
were recovered it was just shells. So out of what was there they made two but
then they started to giving trouble until eventually when only one was working
up until about three weeks ago and then that one gave way too. So when we got
the call saying that we were going to be given two, we were glad. When Mr. Moguel
recalled and said three, that made it better.”
That call came from Rotary Sunrise which today donated a total of 12 computers
to four schools.
Hugo Moguel, Rotary Sunrise
“We did some research and surveyed several schools and came up with
these four that are most in need. These schools have fully equipped computer
labs except for the computers. The computers have broken down, in some cases
have been robbed and vandalized. And so of all the schools that we surveyed,
there were about over 2,000 children in elementary schools in Belize City without
a single computer or access to a simple computer at their school and that was
very alarming to us and so we decided to give three computers to the schools
that were ready and eager to use them.”
Marva Bennett,
“We are excited because the children have been asking us when will
they continue to get computer classes.”
The other schools to receive computers were Calvary Temple and James
Garbutt Seventh Day Adventist Primary Schools and the YMCA. The computers were
donated by Rotary International.
