Two hours after the armed robbery at Tienda Melchor, armed gunmen struck
again, this time on the north side at Diamond Entertainment, a game room on
Saint Thomas Street. The manager who wished to appear off camera and not be
identified says he saw two men come in who were familiar, because two weeks
earlier, those same two men came in to observe his operation. This time though,
they came with guns on the ready – and what unfolded was a near death
experience.
Store Manager,
“When I went to serve them, the next one just haul the gun and he
pointed it at my forehead. One trigger done went already but the one trigger
neva gone off. He shot me one time and then the second time. We started to struggle.”
Jules Vasquez,
“And what happened after the struggle?”
Store Manager,
“When we started to struggle, the next one can’t come and loose
ihself, the next one just hauled the gun off a di next bally and right there
he shot me but ih neva ketch me again. I can’t scare but I went and do
what I have to do.”
Jules Vasquez,
“Are you afraid to remain open, do you have security?”
Store Manager,
“I don’t have no security but if you nuh work you can’t
eat. You have to do a job.”
And just in case you didn’t catch it, the manager explained that
they held a gun to his head, but if misfired, and when the gunman went to pull
the trigger again, he grabbed the gun. That is when the other assailant stepped
in and tried to wrest the gun away and when he did, he pulled the trigger again
and a shot was fired; it narrowly missed the manager’s midsection. The
robbery was caught on camera and police are reviewing the security footage.
