There was a minor accident on the Western Highway at 8:00 this morning
when a Chevy Blazer and a motorcycle collided. It happened at mile one, just
past the cemetery where two men were riding on the motorcycle and reportedly
tried to overtake the Blazer – but on the right hand side. That caused
a collision that sent the men on the cycle careening out of control. They crashed
on the shoulder of the road and the driver of the motorbike – whose name
has not been released by police – was injured. Fidel Castro was the driving
the Chevy Blazer and he gave us his account of what happened.
Fidel Castro, Driver of Chevy Blazer
“I was coming from Belize City to get to the burying ground with my
indicator light on and everything and when I turned there, the guy on the motorcycle
was looking to overtake me on the left side.”
Jules Vasquez,
“And you crashed into you?”
Fidel Castro,
“Yes he run into me, I didn’t knock him down. He run into me.”
Jules Vasquez,
“And then after that he just…”
Fidel Castro,
“He lost control and he dropped over so. We called the ambulance from
eight o’clock and it just came.”
Jules Vasquez,
“What seemed to be the extent of his injuries?”
Fidel Castro,
“I think his foot broke and his head had a swelling. Definitely I
checked and I didn’t see nobody.”
Jules Vasquez,
“It was a blind spot.”
Fidel Castro,
“Yes and I mean I can’t do nothing to try escape that accident
because I didn’t see the man. I was already looking to turn. I looked
in the rear mirror and I didn’t see nobody back of me.”
The ambulance took a while to arrive but that’s because the original
call told them the accident happened near to BDF Headquarter on the Northern
Highway. Turns out, it was the BDF Reserve Headquarters on the Western Highway.
