Belize Water Services has asked for a rate increase, and the PUC will announce
its initial decision on November 17th. The deadline for the public to send in
comments was yesterday and there were only four.
The executive of Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action (COLA) said
that, “an increase in these already hard time and high cost of acquiring
these needed service will only bring more hardship to our people.”
A couple from Esperanza Village objected on the grounds of poor service and
the economic slowdown. A Belizean who lives in El Salvador and returns home
monthly said that rates in El Salvador which has fewer water resources than
Belize, are a fifth of the rates in Belize.
An anonymous writer listed nineteen points of contention based on BWS’
business plan submission for attention by the PUC. You can see the full comments
at the PUC.bz website.
