Miranda Brothers Convicted
posted (November 4, 2009)

Herman Miranda made the news last month when 40 boxes of pre and post natal vitamins were found inside his home. Well Herman Miranda is back in the news tonight and it is along with his brother Ronald Miranda. Today the Mirandas were convicted of handling stolen items from the University of Belize’s teacher kitchen on Freetown Road. The break-in occurred between September and October 27th of 2008. The thieves made off with items amounting to just over $8,000.

Police searched the Miranda house two days after the incident and found some of the stolen items including a microwave oven. Both men were home at the time and charged for handling stolen goods. They pleaded not guilty but remained silent throughout the trial.

Today Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie convicted Herman of two counts of handling stolen goods and ordered him to pay $1,500 per count. Ronald was convicted of one count and ordered to pay $1,500. The brothers have to pay the fines by December 30th or spend 18 months in jail.
