The owner of Flores Bus Service is tonight crying foul. Alton Flores
who operates runs from Belize City to Ladyville says the Department of Transport
is refusing to re-license one of his busses. It is important to know that last
month the Supreme Court issued an injunction against the Department of Transport
after it had suspended Flores’ permit to run. That injunction expires
on November 16th but the license for one of his buses expired on October 31st.
Flores today told us about his predicament.
Alton Flores, Owner – Flores Bus
“I’ve been upstairs at the office and I spoke to one Mr. Guerra
and he said that Ms. Candelaria instructed him not to license my bus because
there is no permit issued. However there is an injunction at this moment given
by the courts and I don’t know what else to do because I have tried all
my best to license the bus and they refuse.”
Keith Swift,
“Are you going to continue running the bus even though it is not licensed?”
Alton Flores,
“Well I asked Mr. Guerra just a few minutes ago and he said he can’t
do anything because he got instructions from Belmopan, from Ms. Saldivar.
This is my assumption, that they have their personal agenda and that’s
my opinion, they have their personal agenda and they don’t want me on
the road.”
We were unable to get comment from the Department of Transport. Flores
has five buses but has a permit to run only three with a fourth on standby.
