On October twelfth, an elderly Canadian man watched helplessly watched as a burglar raped his sixty two year old wife. The sickening ordeal took place inside the couple’s home in Freetown Sibun. Well today police say this is the man who did it: twenty one year old Cannon Obispo aka “Ghetto Village,” a construction worker of Teakettle Village.

Today when Cannon Obispo appeared before Magistrate Sharon Frazer she explained to the accused that no plea will be taken because the crimes of rape and aggravated assault are indictable offences. The accused was also explained that the court cannot offer him bail because of the nature of the offences.

Court reports reveal that on October twelfth an armed man broke into the couple’s home. He reportedly raped the wife in front of her husband and then proceeded to rob the couple of money and then drove off in their 1999 Chevy Blazer. Police were able to recover only two of the stolen items, a lap top computer and a thirty two inch flat screen television and three persons have been charged for handling those stolen items.

During his court appearance Cannon Obispo told Magistrate Sharon Frazer that while he was in police custody the cops poured hot water on his genitals , his chest, his head and in his ear. According to Cannon Obispo he was treated for burns he received at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital before the police brought him to court. Tonight he is on remand at the Belize Central Prison until December twenty third.
