38 year old Businessman Jason Coombs was killed in his company’s
compound on Wednesday evening and tonight police still have five men detained
for his murder, but no one has been charged. The mystery of his murder is perplexing;
by all accounts the 38 year old Coombs did not dabble in the underworld; his
business of pre-mixed concrete was legitimate, he was hard working and built
it from the ground up. Police believe his killing was a well-orchestrated hit.
His family has been contending with the shock of his brutal murder
and the grief that accompanies the loss of any loved one. But what’s killing
them, is not knowing “why”. The loss has overwhelmed Jason Coombs’s
mother, Valerie. She lived in Belize in the 70’s and 80’s and built
her family and her life here. Now, she lives in the United States but has returned
to pick up her son’s body. It’s a trip no mother wants to make but
make it she must. But she doesn’t want to return to the United States
without some sense of closure; she wants to know who killed her son and why.
This evening she made a desperate plea to anyone who might have even a shred of useful information to come forward.
Valerie Coombs, Mother of Jason Coombs
“My name is Valerie Coombs. I have lived in Belize for several years. I am the mother of Jason John Coombs who was brutally killed on Wednesday afternoon
at his place of business for absolutely no reason. I am begging, I am appealing
to the Belizean public to help me. If you do have any information, if you know
anything do not be afraid - call the police and help me. Help me because the
pain that I am going through right now is real. It’s something that I
would never wish on any mother in this country.
So I am begging you, please because my pain today could possibly be your
pain tomorrow. I need your help. Please help me and my family to put a closure
on this because…..I am speechless and I am just dying inside. I want help,
I want to find who killed my son. I want justice for him because he didn’t
deserve to die like this. No mother deserves this. So I am begging you to please,
you may think that what you know is not important but maybe it could help so
please help me to tell who killed my son. Thank you very much.”
Coombs was the father of one son and had one on the way. Turning back
to the investigation, as we’ve reported the car that was used in the killing
has not provided any compelling leads because it is a composite vehicle, license
plate form one vehicle, VIN number from another. As we said at the top 5 men
remain detained and the investigation continues to be a top priority for the
City Crimes Investigation Branch.
