The Belize Dance Company’s annual show takes place this weekend.
It’s called Fusion which is also the theme because the performance will
fuse classic dance with Garifuna culture. It is like a best of both worlds and
today Dance Company Director Althea Sealey told us how it will all come together.
Althea Sealey, Director – Belize Dance Company
“This year we are going to have it in two parts. The first half will
be our usual where the children demonstrate the modern technique and different
type of style dancing that we do because we are well known for our diverse style
of dancing. And then the second half is done by Ms. Rosita Baltazar, the Death of Chatoyer. And as you know Chatoyer was an ancestor for the Garifunas and
I think it is going to be interesting for that section to be put on stage. But
it wouldn’t be the traditional style.
Fusion, like I said, it’s a fusion between the contemporary and the
traditional and all sort of dancing. We’ll have classical, we’ll
have tap dancing, we’ll have the Garifuna, we’ll have everything.
To me it is just a fusion of dance put together.
As per usual, the best because that is what we’re going to share.
We’re going to share the talent that God gave each and everyone of us
and we’re hoping that they can enjoy it. It is for everybody. Every single
Belizean is welcome to come.”
There will be two shows only – the first is 8 pm on Saturday
night and the other on Sunday at 5 pm. Tickets are $15 for reserved and $10
for general admission.
