And while Israel has committed to technical assistance – the
IDB today signed unto financial assistance. There are three programmes that
the Inter-American Development Bank will assist with in the areas of agriculture,
social development and land management. The visiting IDB signatory explained
as did the Deputy Prime Minister.
IDB Rep,
“We signed today three loans, very important for the bank strategy
with Belize and very timely because these loans are going to the fiscal stimulus
that you are trying to give to the economy. One of them as we mentioned is to
help you in able to implement a more sustainable social strategy, particularly
in the education and the health sector and with some strengthening in the fiscal
area. The second is lands registry that is going to help to give all the Belizeans
in the urban areas the titles of the land that they own and it is going to improve
the possibility for them to develop and to have these kinds of assets and the
third one has to do with the agricultural sector and give help to develop the
services that Belize needs in order to strengthen the potential for export in
the agricultural sector.”
Hon. Gaspar Vega, Deputy Prime Minister
“The loan is basically for land management program which is actually
the third phase of land management because we’ve had two prior to this
one and what that really means is that we will be able to register more areas
in the country of Belize.”
The loans are for a total of US$2.5 million.
